Year 6

Welcome to an action-packed Year 6! With a visit from Jonathon's Jungle to start the year; our production in the Summer term; and our week long residential at Manor Adventure to look forward to, we hope to give our pupils some fantastic, lasting memories of their last year in primary school.

GROUP OF CHILDRENGROUP OF CHILDREN

In Year 6, children hold many roles of responsibility. Huge congratulations to those who have earned positions as House Captains, prefects, on the School Improvement Team and School Council representatives. We know you will all do us proud throughout the year.

Alongside the curriculum coverage, we recognise that Year 6 is a year of transition with secondary transition and induction days throughout the year. Children will also sit the statutory standardised assessment tests (SATs) in May and part of our curriculum coverage will ensure children are well prepared for this week.

Autumn Term 2017

Throughout the Autumn Term, our Creative Curriculum topic is 'The Rainforest - Power'. We will explore the rainforest environment, plants, animals, tribes and the impact of deforestation. In preparation for our February Curriculum Evening, children will create their own rainforest masks as well as studying the work of Cornish fineline artist Jon Tremaine. We will also be putting our creative skills to use through computing by creating our own Wallace and Gromit-style stop-gap animations.

Continuing with our Rainforest theme, in English children will explore poetry and narrative as well as writing non-chronological reports based on their own fantasy rainforest creatures and taking part in a debate about deforestation.

In Maths, autumn term is all about the basics! We will be spending a majority of our time focusing on the four key operations, arithmetic skills and fractions.

PE will take place twice a week with Gymnastics and Frisbee our initial focuses for autumn term.
