Year 2

What an exciting year we have ahead of us in Year 2! from bones to Barcelona, beanstalks to brachiosauruses, this year the classrooms will be brimmimn with learning that the children will take with them as they leave Key Stage 1.

The children will be developing their UNITED skills throughout the year to improve their learning abilities in preparation for what lies ahead in the Juniors. As part of this important year, we will be preparing ourselves for the statutory SATs (standardised assessment tests) in May 2018 and getting ready for this importamnt week in the calendar.

Autumn Term 2017

Step back in time this term, Year 2 are going prehistoric! We will be immersing ourselves in our 'Dinosaur' topic for this first Autumn term. Alongside learning about the different dinosaurs that once walked this Earth, we will be using our UNITED skills to gather information on the different habitats around the planet and the types of dinosaurs that lived in them. Like all good palaeontologists, we will be researching facts and publishing our results in the form of non-chronological reports.

We will also be putting our creative hats on and designing our own dinosaurs before then transferring these into computerised images using some digital editing software. In case this all sounds a little too realistic, we will also be learning how humans first realised that dinosaurs once roamed the Earth and looking at the fossils that they left behind. If the children are still getting their Triassic mixed up with their Cretaceous, a trip to All Things Wild should clear things up for these little Jurassic learners!
